The Effect Of Word Square Media On Knowledge And Attitude Of Teenagers On Risk Factors Of Diabetes Mellitus

Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a condition in which the body, particularly the pancreas, has difficulty utilizing and producing insulin in sufficient amounts. The mortality rate from Diabetes Mellitus is partly caused by behaviors in youth associated with an unhealthy lifestyle. Diabetes Mellitus does not only occur in adulthood, but can also happen in adolescence.
Objectives: The aim of the research is to determine the effect of health education through Word Square media on the knowledge and attitudes of adolescents regarding the risk factors for Diabetes Mellitus at SMK Negeri 1 Samarinda.
Research Metodes: This research is a quantitative study using a one group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study is class X, consisting of 438 students. The sample used comes from an accessible population, specifically the Tourism Services Department, consisting of 73 students, using the Total Sampling technique. The data analysis used for both variables is the Wilcoxon test.
Results: The results of this study indicate that there is a difference before and after health education was provided using Word Square media regarding the knowledge and attitudes of the respondents, with a knowledge ρ-value of 0.000 and an attitude ρ-value of 0.000.
Conclusion: There is an influence of health education using Word Square media on the knowledge and attitudes of adolescents regarding the risk factors for Diabetes Mellitus at SMK Negeri 1 Samarinda.
